Before retirement he had taught evangelism and preaching at Southwestern and then at Southern Baptist seminaries. He has been pastor of South Main Baptist Church in Houston and of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville.<\/p>\n<p>\nAs she settles softly <br \/>\non my knee <br \/>\nI feel chosen.<\/p>\n<p>Most of her life, <br \/>\nlike my own, <br \/>\ngoes by unnoticed.<\/p>\n<p>Hers, in creeks <br \/>\nand ponds-finding <br \/>\nfood, shedding skins, <br \/>\nescaping predators. <br \/>\nMine, the same, <br \/>\njust different arenas.<\/p>\n<p>Her ancestors flew <br \/>\nmillions of years <br \/>\nbefore birds dreamed <br \/>\nof wings or the gods <br \/>\nthought Orville or Wilbur.<\/p>\n<p>Just look at her. <br \/>\nThree hundred sixty <br \/>\ndegree vision, wings <br \/>\noperating independently, <br \/>\ntechnology the Pentagon <br \/>\nwould shell out millions for.<\/p>\n<p>I want her to fly away <br \/>\nand lay batches of eggs <br \/>\nbefore we drain the ponds or <br \/>\npollute the streams with our progress.<\/p>\n<p>Then, ages from now,<br \/>\nsuch an iridescent creature <br \/>\nmay land on a child`s <br \/>\noutstretched hand <br \/>\nand fill its heart <br \/>\nwith wonder..<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Dragonfly by Kenneth Chafin Dr. Kenneth Chafin is alive and well having recently moved to Houston.
