Heard<\/p>\n<p>[Wyatt H. Heard was a State District Judge in Houston for 21 years. Since 1991, as a lawyer, he has been doing mediations and arbitrations. He lives in Albuquerque.]<\/p>\n<p>There he sat on the<br \/>\nlawn furniture;<br \/>\nWith his small portable<br \/>\nradio tuned in on the<br \/>\nbaseball game.<\/p>\n<p>The voices of my children<br \/>\nand others filled the air.<br \/>\nHe was not the focus of<br \/>\ntheir attention but<br \/>\nthey knew he was there.<br \/>\nWaiting in patience<br \/>\nready to mentor if needed.<\/p>\n<p>His massive frame and<br \/>\nthose huge hands which<br \/>\nin former days used a <br \/>\nrope and an ax,<br \/>\nnow simply turned the<br \/>\ndial on his radio.<\/p>\n<p>Three decades ago my<br \/>\njudgment was flawed of him.<br \/>\nThat is now in the past<br \/>\nnever to be retrieved.<\/p>\n<p>I hope it will give me<br \/>\npause when my judgment<br \/>\nof someone else is not<br \/>\ntempered with mercy.<\/p>\n<p>These lessons extract a<br \/>\ntoll on us, but maybe,<br \/>\njust maybe, compassion<br \/>\nwill not only be allowed to<br \/>\nsurface but flood all our<br \/>\ncells as we are becoming<br \/>\nsomething new.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Daddy By Wyatt H.
