Rich Folk and the Family of Lazerus

It`s a long, long time to wait
\nFor life to be better in that
\nSweet by and by
\nFor most citizens of this land
\nAnd for most of those who dwell on this earth.
\nFor these lie is a long way
\nFrom something that is good,
\nIt is instead a prison,
\nSomething to be endured<\/p>\n
For these who worry
\nFor food, hosing, medical care-
\nLife is a prison,
\nIt is unrelenting stress
\nTo find the day`s manna,
\nTo keep something on one`s belly
\nAnd to satisfy the appetites of their young<\/p>\n
These are these who have no time,
\nNo energy, no freedom to organize,
\nTo speak as new loud and compelling voice<\/p>\n
There`s also little desire to pray
\nFor God appears to have bequeathed the riches and treasures
\nOf this earth to a tiny minority,
\nThose who feel entitled, <\/p>\n
God, they assume, is their silent partner
\nAnd so they repose in tranquil slumber each night
\nKnowing that there will be quite enough for tomorrow<\/p>\n
Does God know this?
\nDoes God see this?
\nDoes God have the power to rectify<\/p>\n
One fact remains in this disparity-
\nThe gulf between the haves and the have nots
\nIs created, perpetrated and exacerbated<\/p>\n
Surely God is not only concerned
\nWith whether we pray
\nOr whether we attend church on Sundays
\nOr whether w have ever entertained a lustful thought<\/p>\n
Surely God is concerned that there are those
\nWho sit at the world`s family table
\nAnd who reach into the common platter of food
\nAnd take much more than they need
\nAnd thus deprive others around that table
\nEnough on which they can survive.<\/p>\n
Those who suffer here
\nShould not be required to wait till the hereafter
\nAnd those who possess an abundance
\nShould either share and work for equity
\nOr else not look forward to anything after this life
\nExcept that which awaits us all,
\nJudgment Day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
