Randall O&rsquo;Brien&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <br \/>\nFebruary 15,2015 <o_p><\/o_p><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>Ode to Nam on the 40th Anniversary of its End<o_p><\/o_p><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">he came home from nam<br \/>\nBut never made it back.<br \/>\nI saw him last just before<br \/>\nhe left for the war.<o_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">We celebrated his return<br \/>\nhis presence being our only lack.<br \/>\ncheering glasses were raised<br \/>\nrepeatedly before<o_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">We noticed his eyes and long hair were with us<br \/>\nBut not his mind.<br \/>\nafter the party he walked to the Vietnam memorial<br \/>\nand killed himself real fine. <span style=\"font-family:&quot;Arial&quot;,sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><o_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>On Coming Home From Nam <o_p><\/o_p><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">she cried as he left, clinging to his saint Christopher<br \/>\nchaining around his neck, eyes kissing his as he pressed his face<br \/>\nagainst the bus window<br \/>\nFor one last embrace.<br \/>\nhe cried as he read her letter, clinging to his dreams<br \/>\ndying in the important war,<br \/>\neyes watering falling as he pressed his nose<br \/>\nagainst her perfumed envelope<br \/>\nFor one last taste.<br \/>\nshe cried when he came home, clinging to her prayers<br \/>\nthat the shrapnel had not been hers,<br \/>\neyes pleading as the soldiers pressed the flag<br \/>\nagainst the box and lowered it<br \/>\nto its resting place. <span style=\"font-family:&quot;Arial&quot;,sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><o_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>War! What is it Good For?<o_p><\/o_p><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Mother, mother, mother, he wailed and I cried too. <br \/>\nWhat child should lose his legs because <br \/>\npresidents blew their moral responsibility to solve<br \/>\nour differences?<o_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Father, father, father of our country, we cussed you. <br \/>\nWhat protector, moral, caring wouldn&rsquo;t <br \/>\npeace pursue <br \/>\nregardless of his enemy&rsquo;s <br \/>\ndeeds and inferences?<o_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Mother&rsquo;s on her way, i screamed and crawled to <br \/>\nWhat brother i could <br \/>\nhold as he could cleave to <br \/>\nUntil our bookie presidents could come to their senses.<o_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">soldier, son, daughter, what more could i do <br \/>\nWhat world so evil that i must <br \/>\nsacrifice you <br \/>\nof humankind suffer far worse <br \/>\nconsequences? <span style=\"font-family:&#10;&quot;Arial&quot;,sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><o_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><i>J.
